So given the recent shenanigans ProBoards has been giving us lately I am now looking at other hosts. This will mean a change in the interface and appearance of the forum, in all likelihood a bigger one than when we updated from v4 to v5.
It will also mean we will be starting over on an empty forum. It will require new registrations for all members and staff, and your posts and post counts will not be carried over. This forum will remain available as an "archive" for old information, but with all posting disabled. Important threads for things like rules and instructions will be migrated over to the new host manually. Yes, this will be a pain in the ass, but staying with ProBoards is not really an option because many users have recently reported being unable to post or start threads due to various errors.
I'm currently just browsing for a new host. It probably be at least a few days before I commit to anything.
In case you want to help in the search for a new host, these are the criteria: hosting must be free, (ads are ok) provider must be reliable, (not a scam) must allow member groups, no member limit, must be usable out-of-the-box without much setup.

CreateAForumI used this a while back for a project, took a while to find it. I dislike the 'createaforum' name, but there are so many options and shit to edit, it's pretty cool. Can make usergroup/select board-only chatboxes, and other cool stuff.

I loved that plugin though because it was great at preventing people from posting un-formatted wall of text ban appeals that admins would have to sift through for useful information like ckeys. I would give much weightier consideration to a new host if it offered something like that. |

Dunno, like I said, haven't used it in forever, but I would suggest just making a random one and tinkering with it all to find out what exactly it has (dunno if it has been updated since when I used it, or what) and if you like what you see. I always find it better to play around with things myself, rather than taking someone's word for it. |

www.phpbb.com/a few websites ive belonged to in the past that one of which has over 10000 members has used this, it has a nice flow and fuctions. I would suggest checking it out see if you like it.
