Three Types of Servers Grief: Better classified as "No Rules"/"Minimal Rules". Shit happens, a lot. The communities are centered around grief, usually these people are the people that get permabanned on other servers. Admins will normally badmin and rarely help you. Their code base is usually custom, involving things like shit, quite literally for shits and giggles. They sprout up a lot, and die quick because of their targeted community. Semi-RP: Essentially you follow the rules, but you have a -little- leeway in what you can do. Depending on the server, its up to you with what you want to do. You will see people seek "legit"/"valid" kills sometimes. Admins do events and sometimes you will see Michael Jackson as the singularity. RP: Not exactly depicted as in the image. But close enough. Normally, based on the server; you'll have to roleplay most things out to the extent of your job. Botanist? You may or may not get banned for hacking a door. Assistant finding a gun? You may or may not get in trouble for taking down an entire team of Nuke Ops. People freak when in character is broken by the slightest thing. You are normally to do what you signed up for, and nothing your character would not possibly know how to do. If you don't like it, head over to the dorms and go braindead. Don't kill yourself, they inform the admins each and every time someone attacks themselves. Every. Time. Server Gimmicks on the Byond Page
I'm sure you have seen it before. A giant fucking cat staring you down on the SS13 Byond Hub. Between countless banners and whatnot, you'll get confused. The Hub has a tons of gimmicks, so lets look through a few of them. Friendly Admins: Imagine a label on a pizza box that says "Best in the West". You tried it and its horrible, definitely not the best in the west. Same thing applies to SS13 servers, they might say "Friendly" admins, but that is just what the box says. Until you open the box and try a bite, you assume that these are the best admins ever. Lag Free: Essentially the same as Friendly Admins. It might say Lag Free, but whose to say it might not be? Pictures: Large and in charge is a pretty good term to use, not. Counting off currently on the Byond hub, there are 8 servers that have pictures. Thats right, 8. Of those eight, one of them is past 5 players. Pictures detract, and while make finding a favorite server easier, they just look like eye sores, especially when they rip things from the internet to use in their picture. Fake Player Counts: Click here for the appropriate image. Fake player counts exist through all games, however Byond is the ultimate lie detector when detecting clients connected. This isn't a widespread problem though, and has only happened a few times. |

The Fake player thing is weird. I am looking at the server list and Yogstation claims that they currently have 49 players. Hmmm weird but it can only list 3 of them, must be a glitch, yep defiantly an unintentional glitch.

Yes didn't you know, it takes an advance docter's/rocket science degree to rub ointment all over yourself or put a band-aid on a few cuts. Last time I tried applying ointment I realized that I'm not the CMO so I ate it. It did not help. |

The last time I played on a bay server was like last year, and I got yelled at, as HoS, to take off my armored coat and my hat. Needless to say, last time I ever played there.

Armour is uncomfortable, NO one would wear it WILLINGLY, it has to be an EMERGENCY first.
It makes it so that Security Officers have to take forever to get to a person screaming help because they must run to Security first, suit up and then run back or they have to live, breathe and sleep in the brig to make sure they can respond in time.

Nope, they made me take it off because it was Green alert level. It happened on another bay server too, was playing Security officer, was threaten to be banned if I didn't take off my helmet.

You thought security was supposed to HELP people on Bay? Bay is supposed to be realistic so realistically they will take an hour to get there and when they do they'll make sure your funeral is nicely arranged. Bay wants realism but then you have to wonder why we're not all obese fatasses because we can't fucking run for half a damn on any server with baycode. Being in a space suit while starving and half-dead must be fucking horrendous, even when in run mode. |

I don't know why they think it would be uncomfortable to wear it 1 to like 3 hours max. The police officers in my area where their bullet proof vests every hour on the job.

Exactly, except Bay thinks that's a big no-no even though Nanotrasen (everything is based off lore in Bay, it seems) knows that there are companies out to murder them and every god damn person that looks at them funny, yet they don't want security in any armor, or carrying anything that MIGHT do something against men in strong space-able armor with ballistic weapons. Oh yeah I forgot to mention you have to tase someone like 5 fucking times in Bay for it to do jack shit to them so a taser isn't gonna do much. Also take into account that getting shot in the foot will send you to surgery for about the next god damn hour. |
