As you know the chaplain starts with a soul shard in his office.
It can be used to "absorb" someone's very soul from their body. Only when they have been gravely wounded or recently passed away.
When a soul is caught the chaplain can release it as a shade, a strange ghost-like being capable of speech and the ability to drain life from another being.
Now. Here is what to do and what not to do with this power.
Do ------------ Leave it on the desk and never use it. If someone begs to become a shade and your new slave pet then let them, but first alert the crew to it. Control your shade.
Do Not ------------ Absorb the souls of the crew unless they ask to be absorbed. Release a shade and command it to kill. Attack and absorb anyone you see. Give it to any useless fuck who asks for it. Use it to roleplay a psycopathic chaplain who has a lust/fetish for souls.
Follow these simple guidelines and avoid a ban. Fail to follow them and enjoy your ban.

Is there a way to make shades stop being a thing? As in, put them back in the stone? Whenever I've tried to put a shade back in their stone it says that they are "banished" and that I can't put them in the stone because they are already banished.

However, prehaps clicking on the shade when you are next to them with the shard equiped may work.

Are shades bound to follow their master like a AI is bound to follow a human?
Cause lately I have been seeing a guy try to become a shade almost every round and then go on a killing spree even with his master yelling at him not to kill people.

They get a message when shaded, something along the lines of "You are bound to [guy'sname], you must follow their orders.". basically, yes they have to do whatever they say.

Yeah, yet people think being a shade means a golden ticket to being a chucklefuck. I think they just see themselves as a red ghost and go "SWEET JESUS I CAN GRIFF!"

Bumpmuch? Anyway, that could be a bad idea considering how the shade might go on a killing spree if no admins are on. No escape from a shade who can walk through walls. (Besides weapons, of course, but the first victim might be caught unprepared.)

Yeah. Shades grief all the god damn time, even with admins on. Making them more powerful is a bad idea.
