Head of Personnel
The Head of Personnel is one of the most annoying jobs for some but the easiest for others. Why is that you ask? Because of the sheer fact that the moment you intent to do something, someone will want a job change. This guide intends to detail the average round of the HoP.
Perk's of being the HoP:
As your name suggests, you are the Head of Personnel. You are the brain behind your body of civilians. Most civilian jobs are under your control and when the need arises must keep them in line.
You have your own office. In it is an ID computer to edit ID's of people needing a job change or people getting demotions. As well as that you have a Security Computer which allows you to check security records.
You have Ian the Corgi. Guard Ian with your life and do not ever toss him in a washing machine. Put clothing or hats on him.
Ian ->
Your locker as usual contains backup gear in case you are promoted to the HoP and need gear. It contains various other odds and ends such as an energy gun and spare IDs.
You can give your self an all access ID with your ID computer. Be forewarned though, space law still applies to you. If you enter the captains room for example and are caught, it is still trespass even though you gave your self access.
Downside of being the HoP:
As the comic suggests, you will be hunted down as soon as you leave your office. People will want a job change, and people will go to lengths to get you into your office. Stay in your office unless you really need to. That owl costume can wait.
Your ID is one of the few ID's that can access the ID computer. Seriously, do not lose it. If you give your self all access then you pretty much gave at least five other people it if they get your ID.
For the love of robust, do not create an all access spare ID and leave it in the ID computer when you leave.
You are a target for your ID.
Know your work space:
This is your office. It is connected to the bridge and is defended by reinforced walls. It is located near the library and kitchen if you ever need to find it. On the map below is the important things of your work space.
1. This is your pride and joy. The ID computer. Oh and the security computer as well. You will spend most of your time here. In front of you is a double sided window. People normally drop their ID's off on the table for you to edit. On the table above the ID computer is paper and your stamper.
2. The door leads to the bridge. Head's will usually use this door to go to #5.
3. This door leads to the hallway from your office. It is like the windows in #1 to prevent people from walking in when its open.
4. This is the line. At the start of a round expect about four people wanting job changes.
5. This door leads to the Head meeting room. As detailed in #2, other Head's will travel into here. In the locker to the left is all your spare equipment and other odds and ends.
Tools of the trade:
To use your ID computer, place your ID into the machine followed by the ID of the person who wants access given to them. Once logged in, you can do one of three things.
You can also give out a custom job by taking advantage of the custom option of changing the job. You will be prompted to enter a custom job name. From there you can give individual access to areas. An example of this could be a detective wanting an assistant. What do you put in the ID? Detective's Assistant. What access do you give him? Limited detective access.
There may be times however that certain things are happening. For example, a traitor or changling might be on the station. Think before you give access. Does this security officer really need xenobiology access? Does this assistant really need AI upload access? When in doubt though, ask them to get a signed and stamped letter from the head of the department they want to get access to. It can sometimes ruin people's plans if they realize they need to get access from a head they have already killed.
Chain of Command:
You are the second in command of the station. If the captain dies, you are the new captain unless the captain has ordered someone else to be the captain. You control most civilian based jobs and they report to you provided. They look up to you, treat them with respect and get respect back.
Just remember though, you may have all access but other than the fact you can still be brigged for trespass, you are not allowed to micromanage other heads departments. You don't control security, RD, Engineering or medical. If you do, feel free to be griefed by them. The only person on the station that can manage each department is the Captain. You are not the captain. If there is no captain or the captain is dead, your the acting captain.
Useful Equipment:
Through the station is equipment for you to use that you may not normally need. These items are useful to your job at certain times. Each item comes with their location and possible use.
Spare IDs - Your backpack/Your locker/Bridge - If someone their ID stolen from them, you can craft a new one with these.
Spare PDAs - Bridge - There is a box of these in the bridge. Like the ID cards, these can serve as a backup.
Other stuff
Don't go give yourself all access and run into the armory to grab guns almost immediately after arriving. You have no IC reason to do this. Actual no IC reason to do this unless the station is under attack or something like that.
Looting other jobs equipment, such as putting on the Chaplain's hood, the HoS's trench coat and a pair of insulated gloves. You have no reason to have these things unless they give them to you or you are a traitor.
You can easily decline someone a job change or access, just remember to have a VALID IC reason during the current round to do it and not a metagrudge from a previous round.
