I think it would be cool if at like certain spots maybe emergency areas or in security places. That there would be a flare gun on a table or in a cabinet and it took flares as ammo. And when you fire it, out of the gun would shoot a small circle bright red flare that could light up the hallways for 10 seconds. It would be useful if the station goes dark and there is chaos so a person grabs the flare shoots it down the hall way then he gets to see what is there without having to throw a lit flare or a flashlight.
Also the flare gun should do minor burn damage if it hits someone. If the flare that is shot collides with a fuel tank then it should explode. The problems with this I see is reloading it one at a time unless maybe it is like a special flare gun that can fire twice before reloading, and also the few flares on the map I find.

We should also be able to craft something out of it. I mean, god damn. Fill flares with DEUDLY FIREY CHEMICALS. Load them up in your Flare SMG. CAUSE HAVOC AND DESTRUCTION.

Hmm if flash lights were nerfed down to where they only shined in the direction your facing then flares would be a bunch more useful. But I been thinking and it probably should fire 2 shots before it needs to reload so people don't think it is useless compared to just throwing a regular flare, because that means you could fire one down one way and another the other way real quick not to mention blowing up fuel tanks or burning someone a little bit.
Maybe they should be buildable by the autolathe and it uses small ball shaped flare rounds you can also get from the autolathe. Also how bout it can be modified in someway i'm still thinking of to be able to fire just 1 shotgun shell at a time, the problem with that then it might be a easy weapon to get hands on unless the modify way is more then just using a welding tool on it.

I don't know how you would add it, but there should be some form of 'flash' effect, (to where you can't see for a second if it was fired at you/near you), but still able to move; that way it would be more useful, although things like sunglasses would nullify or completely get rid of this effect.

So far all I been able to come up with if the flare gun would be modifiable is that you need to use a saw on it (to saw off the other barrel) then screwdriver it (to modify the firing system or something) and then when you try to use a shotgun shell it has a chance to break like the detectives revolver with different ammo.
I am thinking the break chance should be like probably 20 percent? Anyone else got any ideas?

Flares themselves work well enough, they can last for over five minutes or so, and illuminate a pretty large area, that, added with the fact that you can throw them, already nullifies the need for something to fire them.
Not to mention, Flare guns and flares are two different things, if you tried to load an actual flare into a flare gun, the best you'll get is nothing, and the worst being that it sets your whole hand on fire, Flare guns have specialized ammo, you can't just shove any random piece of junk you find and expect it to work.
If you nerf flashlights to shine only in a limited arc or in the direction you're facing, you're effectively rendering everything portable-light related useless, they're made for when the lights go out, not for you to shine down a corridor or suchso, not to mention the idiots with NVs and Xrays breaking lights so that they can powergame.
As for putting deadly chemicals inside Flare SMGs, do we really fucking need more shit for the chemists to grief with?

First off I would not want a flare smg thing with chemical your able to put into the flares. Second off the ammo I am thinking of are the flare shells that are used in flare guns. Third off I think the flare guns idea would be pretty neat to the station and may even add some roleplay element.
Picture a bunch of xenos on the station and the power is out. You go to where ever the flare gun is and pick it up and you walk down a long corridor and you got no flashlight. So you shoot the flare gun down the hall and it lights up the place showing a bunch of xenos. You then could fire your second shot to shoot one, or switch to your other hand and fire your gun to try to kill the xenos.
Oh yeah fourth off in order to counter someone just lighting a flare and throwing them instead of firing the flare gun, the flare gun should be double barreled. Plus there is only a few flares I find on the station so having flare gun ammo build-able by autolathe instead of having to find flares would make someone use the flare gun more then flares them selves.
Also I can see how flash lights would never get nerfed just a little me thinking to my self.
