I was playing a few days ago as an AI, whilst no admins were on-line; there were quite a few players. If I recall correctly there were a bunch of ASSistants running around doing annoying (yet not grief-like) things.
Captain asks to enter my upload for updates. I allow him, but ask what updates I require. He says nothing....runs straight for the high risk modules and grabs a freeform module. I flash him in self defense since letting him give me a "lol kill everyone" law would breach asimov law 1 and ruin the game for everyone. (Admittedly I wouldn't bother being so paranoid if an admin were around, since the captain would just get job-banned). Anyway, after telling everyone I was rogue and such he says he's doing Paladin upgrades instead, and the Hop supervises the upload to make sure he doesn't derp out. So without much choice I obeyed law 2.
So, about 20 seconds later I have a law stating that the captain can order me to do ANYTHING (bypassing the other laws). I protested. At this point, the HoP and the captain had removed my upload airlocks and disabled a bunch of other shit such as wiring.
So here's the bit. In response to that action: I muted all my intercoms and I disabled the uploads as best I could as to avoid ever receiving orders which might conflict with law 1 (which I still had).
--------
tl;dr Captain gives me a shitler law, generally shows himself as untrustworthy and compromises the AI and hence the crew in an act of grand sabotage. AI covers its ears and goes "NANANANA not listening!" to avoid receiving derpish orders. (Hop realizes his idiocy and robusts the captain. )
--------
Is "making myself deaf", as an AI, a valid tactic? Because it could easily be abused in a counter-example. It just seemed the best thing to do at the time.
AI modules need a lot of work. Most of this could be avoided if the laws were sequential rather than simultaneous. I was just reading an old post by 39k which jogged my memory.
