Ah yes I saw this thread, very nice.
I have made a fair few mods for minecraft my most basic one got added to the game, sandstone. I may be able to help with this depends on what needs done.

The only real flaw I can see with it is the common association of jobs (since minecraft uses skins, anyone can dress around in captains armor with their skin) being broken. But its only a small detail that can be. I like in one of the videos the texture pack used for it. I wish you luck.

@scooter - We are planning on using plugins to assign people certain default skins, and to make things like the captains armor equipment like diamond armor that you have to obtain as an item to put on.
