Captain, we have a problem, all the time
Welcome test sub- I mean Captain to the station. You control the crew, so half the time your running around like a maniac. Lets go over some basic things to do and what not to do while being a Captain
Your Workplace
You spawn in your office, obviously. Whats so good about it? Nothing really. You won't spend much time here but a portion of the time you will end up running here once the round gets into motion. Your office has a communications console and an ID computer, you won't ever need to use the ID computer, normally. Now moving on, the ID computer has your spare ID on it. For the love of god, take it with you or at least hide it were you know no one else will find it. Above the computers is soap, use it as an alternate to a shower or sink. At the desk at the top of your room you have the nuclear authentication disk, seriously hide that somewere and take the pinpointer just in case. Nearby it is a camera and photoalbum, you won't need these. To the right of those is the chain of command, feel free to use it on people who disobey. Also in your room in the case is your antique laser pistol, take it with you or not as its a traitor objective, its yours after all so feel free to take it.
First steps of your Job
Whats so special about your job? Nothing really. No seriously theres nothing special about it. You are pretty much a Head of Personnel with natural access to everything and a small commanding leadership no one really cares about. But all joking aside you are the most important thing to exist on the station, unless a CentComm officer arrives. The first thing you want to do is ask the AI, if there is one, to bolt the southern most door in your office. Why? People can break in and with it bolted it can give them a hard time since they will have to resort to breaking down an r-wall. Second thing you don't want to do is leave your office at the first 5 minutes of the round. Why? Remember how I mentioned about having that door bolted, someone will eventually try to break into grab your laser pistol or spare ID, so feel free to wait for them to reveal themselves through the wall. You also might want to take note of the fact the only hidden place to break into the captains office leads directly to were you spawn in your office.
What do I do now?
Well while keeping your territory safe, feel free to make an announcement over command radio (:c) for the other heads to report in. From there feel free to access the communications console to allow to write a friendly message to your crew. Now once thats done, your good to leave your office and the bridge. Now lets go over a few things you can or really, should do.
Turn the security level down to green at round start after the initial message goes through, change to blue when confirmation of things goes up, and to red if there is an emergency
Visit each department, talk to people, ask about stuff
Ensure your security team isn't shitcurity and demote the HoS/Security team if they fail to listen to you
Make sure your security team listens to the security levels
Make sure medical isn't goofing off, because we all know what the chemist and geneticists end up creating
Make sure research is not working with toxins, seriously
Keep in check with other heads, don't let them slack off
Remember that your the captain, not security. The only reason you should be inside of security is if theres a trial or execution.
Demote the HoP if they trespass into areas you know they can't get into/If they have access they shouldn't.
Now thats just a small bit of what you SHOULD do, now heres a list of what you should not do
Don't go looting everything for no reason
Don't do anything stupid that will result in others against you
Don't break space law. Why? Because you still apply to space law and can be brigged, demoted, permabrigged or even executed under the HoP's command provided it gets to that point
Remember, you may be hte captain but that does not mean the station is your play thing, and remember, people will take revenge.
